We are glad to announce that the submitted paper titled “The Mont-Blanc prototype: An Alternative Approach for HPC Systems”, Nikola Rajovic et al. has been selected as Best Paper Finalist for SC16.
“I am proud that our Mont-Blanc paper has been selected as one of the finalists of SC16 taking into account that we were selected as Best Student paper in SC13”says N. Rajovic, BSC researcher involved in the Mont-Blanc project since its beginnings.
The paper presents the Mont-Blanc prototype as the first HPC system built with commodity SoCs, memories, and NICs from the embedded and mobile domain, and off the-shelf HPC networking, storage, cooling and integration solutions. This paper summarizes its system’s architecture, and evaluation including both performance and energy efficiency. Further, a comparison between the system’s abilities against a production level supercomputer is also included. The paper concludes with parallel scalability and an estimation of the maximum scalability point of this approach across a set of applications.
All best paper candidates of SC16 conference will be marked in the conference program and the winners will be selected at the conference by an ad-hoc committee and announced at the award ceremony on Thursday, 17th November 2016.
In addition to this paper, the SC16 Programme Committee has also accepted a second paper titled "Unprotected Computing: A Large-Scale Study of DRAM Raw Error Rate on a Supercomputer" . Further information will be available once the SC16 programme is published – check this website for updates.
